A major announcement from Apple Inc. was made on Sept. 9, when it revealed three new products available for the public: a watch and two larger iPhones, Reuters reported.
Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, showcased a new wearable device simply called the Apple Watch, and the two new iPhones, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus to a packed house in the Flint Center for Performing Arts, in Cupertino, California, which happened to be the same location when Macintosh was introduced in 1984.
The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus
The new iPhone 6 has been highly anticipated all year long and many believed larger screens were bound for the updated versions. According to The New York Times, the iPhone 6 will have a 4.7-inch screen, which is larger than the 4-inch iPhone 5s screen, but still smaller than the 5.1-inch Galaxy S5.
However, the new iPhone 6 Plus is a much larger version with a 5.5-inch screen. Both the devices have an aluminum back casing and both bodies of the new iPhones are thinner than all previous models.
The new iPhone is large enough to create concerns with being able to hold it in one hand, but According to the Times, Apple crafted a "Reachability" feature that allows the user to double tap the home button to make the picture move down. The user can then reach over the device with one hand to select something on the screen.
Faster and longer-lasting iPhones
Additionally, the new iPhones will have a faster processor, which will make them 25 percent faster than the previous 5s version, the source cited. Apple said the phones will have faster Internet speeds, better Wi-Fi connections, longer battery life and an improved camera with a sensor that has a quicker autofocus.
However, only the iPhone 6 Plus will have the better camera. Instead, both phones will be able to record better video quality with a 1080 HD camera and enhanced stabilization features. The phones will also feature Burst Selfies, a program to help take more selfie photos.
According to the source, the iPhone 6 contract will start at $200 for the 16-gigabyte model and the iPhone 6 Plus is $300 for 16GB. Presale for the new phones will begin on Sept. 12 and will ship Sept. 19, The Verge reported.
Both of the new iPhones will be available in three different colors: silver, gold and space gray, which were all available on the iPhone 5s.
The Apple Watch
Apple's first ever watch was one of the highlights of the unveiling event with Cook showcasing the new device. The wearable device will mix health and fitness tracking with communication functions. However, Apple isn't the first company to jump into the wearable device watch industry. Other large electronics companies such as Sony Corp, Samsung and LG Electronics Inc have all released smartwatches, but haven't been able to successfully tackle the market.
"[It's a] comprehensive health and fitness device," Cook said about the new smartwatch, according to The Verge. [It's also] an extremely precise and customizable timepiece."
The Apple Watch has the potential to be a trend setter and change the market for smartwatches. Additionally, the new device will have three assortments, which include a sport model for runners and athletes and an 18-karat gold-coated line to separate itself from competitors.
"Compared to what's out there, it feels like it's very slender," said Angela Tafoya, on the fashion blog Refinery29, according to the source. "I like the level of elegance and the three different lines, which include sport and luxury," Reuters reported.
